GRATITUDE AND WELLBEING
Sometimes the everyday routine can become mundane and life seems so busy. It’s hard to look at the positives in your life.
Recognising things and people in your life that you’re grateful for can have a huge impact on your wellbeing. Being grateful for people, things and situations in our lives can create a balanced view. Learning to be grateful shows us what there is to appreciate and be thankful for in our lives right now.
For example be grateful for your body, don’t focus on what you don’t like about it but be grateful to your body for enabling you to walk along the beach or allowing you to achieve everyday movements. Being grateful for your body will lead you to look after it through exercise, healthy eating and mindfulness.
Practice letting go of negativity and introducing gratitude into your life. Look around you there is always something to be grateful for, the people in your life, the blue sky on a sunny day, the sound of waves on the beach or the early morning call of birds starting their day. There are so many benefits to being grateful, you sleep better at night if you go to bed with a positive mindset. Think about all the good things your day included before you go to sleep, you will wake up feeling refreshed and ready to face a new day.
Make today the first day you consciously show gratitude for the good things in your life and see how it impacts on your well being.
ways to practice gratitude
Keep A Gratitude Diary
This is a great way to focus on the things you are grateful for. Choose a diary and special pen you love the look and feel of and will look forward to using. Write down anything good that happens in your day, you can do this at the time or once a day at the best time for you. Be it big things or small things it’s you noting down the positives. It might be a short walk you went on or a task you’ve managed for the first time. Whenever you need a gratitude boost you can look back at your diary and see all the good things that have happened to you.
Practice Simple Pleasures
We all have those small moments in our lives that bring us joy. It might be your first morning coffee taken outside, the purchase of some beautiful flowers for your home or having a spare hour to sit down and read a few chapters of your book. Have appreciation and gratitude for these times that you may normally take for granted.
Show Love For Others
Show gratitude towards others, it opens up the opportunity to show them how much you value them. This can create a ripple effect as someone who has been the recipient of gratitude is more likely to pass this onto their interactions with others.
We owe it to ourselves to start practising gratitude and lead a more positive fulfilling life.
