HOW TO STYLE A COASTAL KITCHEN
Bring a little beach living into your kitchen any time of the year. The coastal style remains a popular decorating choice, and for good reason. With a colour palette taken from nature a beach house feels welcoming and relaxing. You can’t help but to feel on vacation every day in a kitchen with accessories in colours and designs that draw from the sky, sea and sand.
And just because your house isn’t located close to the ocean or to a lake, it doesn’t mean that you can’t incorporate such a style to your home.
Fortunately, there are plenty of retail store and online sources to satisfy any coastal obsession!

Traditional coastal style takes advantage of the colours of nature — sand, sea and sky. The overall aesthetic is bright, open, airy and casual. But with a few tweaks and additions to basic coastal interior you can easily create a newer look. Typically, you’ll choose light paint colours, natural elements, painted and distressed wood furnishings.
A white kitchen with a combination of colours can make it look appealing. An all white kitchen will look different if you add a blue counter or a turquoise stove as the focal point. This is a simple addition that will transform your white kitchen into a stylish spot.
The largest room surface is your walls. A pure white background paint is essential for a fresh feel, add water inspired accent colours like teals, blues and greens in all shades to add interest and warmth.
Lighting is also a main feature of any kitchen, pendant lights are perfect for over an island or kitchen sink. There are so many designs available but metal or rattan are good choices for a coastal theme.
Accent furnishings are the workhorses of home decorating. In a coastal kitchen you’ll need functional pieces. Think double-duty prep areas and serving stations. And extra seating like bar stools, accent chairs and ottomans, for guests are a must.
If there’s one thing that is the cornerstone of any type of coastal decor, it’s reclaimed wood. The authentic rustic feel of reclaimed wood makes your space feel cosy and worn-in.
Adding the color of the sea as well as traditional elements can also make a huge difference. A white kitchen will look more interesting with wooden chairs or wicker chairs. You can have navy wooden chairs paired with a navy chandelier or ceiling lamps.
You can also add bamboo handles or drawer pulls to complete the rustic and traditional look.
Natural rattan and wicker and sea grass storage baskets immediately give a coastal feel as do wooden accessories, utensils, chopping boards and storage jar lids are ways of bringing wood into the kitchen.
Clear glass storage jars also give a homely feel to the coastal kitchen. fill them with food essentials like pasta, flour and spices and keep on your shelf or kitchen counter top.
Grouping items together can create a lovely coastal display in various areas of the kitchen, add some nautical tea towels in white, blue and sandy yellow shades to add a pop of colour. Basically, don’t be afraid to include colours, but stick to the colours of the sea and waves.
Reminiscent of the horizontal lines where the ocean meets the sky, a blue striped throw pillow is another classic staple in coastal decor and can easily be added to a chair or bar stool to soften the room.
Accessories are the additional elements in beach style kitchen designs ideas. They may be simple but they add accents to the whole design. For instance, striped tools can really deliver the coastal effect, especially if you choose the blue or navy hue.
If you are lucky enough to have a kitchen large enough to have a table and chairs or a breakfast bar then you can add lovely coastal accessories such as table mats and coasters, decorative vases and bowls in nautical designs and colours.
Cooking pots and pans are also available in gorgeous coastal blues and really add to the beach side theme as do touches of copper such as the oil pouring container.
The metal touches on the cooker are so in touch with the nautical theme and add a bit of luxury to the theme.
I adore simple white table ware especially for plates and dishes, it goes with everything and always look fresh. You can add nautical additions to the table for mealtimes such as place mats, napkins and glasses in different beach shades.
A glass bowl centre piece with sand and shells on the dining table is gorgeous.
Wall accessories such as anchor decor, washboard wall hanging, or sailboat painting can accentuate the effect. Don’t go overboard with the accessories. Be subtle and keep it light. Add here and there instead of making the kitchen full of accessories.
