We all have our own make up routine, and as I have extremely limited time on most mornings, mine is as simple as possible. My routine takes no more than 15 minutes and is usually squeezed in around eating my morning yogurt and drinking a cup of tea. It is quick, easy and the only time it changes is if I’m having an evening out and have extra time to get ready.
I’ve really been trying hard to make my routine and products as natural as possible and am gradually working my way to only using natural ranges. My favourite is Nude by Nature and most of my current products are by them. Being toxic free is a big thing for me so I’m very choosy about what I put on my skin.
I’ve listed the details of my routine below; it’s taken a few years to find the colours that really suit me, and I usually stick to warm browns and pinks for my daytime look. If I’m getting made up for a night out, I tend to be a bit more daring with eyeshadow shades and will wear a brighter lipstick.
I tend to have a dry complexion now and then so as I use a mineral powder-based foundation, I always use a base primer to give some moisture to my skin first. I also use a concealer on certain areas of my face because as I’ve got older, I’ve gained a few pigmentation marks.
I always use make up brushes and have a few by different brands, I’ve never purchased a full matching set but am quite happy with the ones I have for now. I may look to spending on a full set at some point!
So here’s my routine in steps below:
Step One & Two: Nude By Nature Primer and Powder Foundation in shade Ivory. I apply a thin layer of the primer all over my face and leave for a minute to sink in before applying my foundation with their foundation brush (I love this brush and have it in black and white).
Step Three & Four: Nude By Nature Concealer and Setting Powder. I’ve been using mineral makeup for over a year now and it really works for me. I found liquid foundation was looking too heavy on my skin. I apply the concealer to specific pigmentation affected areas and under my eyes, then follow with the powder to set my base.
Step Five: Nude By Nature Blusher in Dessert Rose. Just a small brush on my cheekbones, I’m quite fair skinned so I usually need some colour to brighten me up.
Step Six: Profusion Mixed Metals Nude Eyeshadow Palette. (I do have a Nude By Nature eyeshadow palette but I usually use it for evening as the colours are brighter). I use the lighter shade Flurry as a base all over my eye area first and then use a darker colour Indulge or Evolve on my lid blending the two together. I then use the darkest brown Classy in the crease to give some depth. To finish off I use the Flurry in the very centre crease of my eyebrow. Depending on my mood I sometimes use my Steve Laurant Rose Gold Powder to add a bit of shimmer to my eyelid. I have to admit I do have a few eye palettes that sit in my drawer mainly unused as I can’t resist makeup sales!
Step Seven: Nude By Nature Eye Pencil in 01 Black I use a line of this on my eyelid near my lashes and blend in with the rubber tip.
Step Eight: Nude By Nature Mascara in 01 Black I love this mascara, its not too thick and clumpy and gives my lashes just the right amount of volume for daytime. No 7 sculpting eyebrow pencil in black, I’m not the greatest at getting a good eyebrow shape so the special angle of this is perfect for me
Step Nine: Nude By Nature Lipstick in 06 Dusky Nude A quick swipe of this last minute (usually as I’m running out the door) and I’m good to go. I do usually re-apply when I get to work. I have lots of lipsticks and struggle to stick to one brand and shade. I cannot help myself I’m a lipstick junkie, which is not great when trying to simplify my life!
There you have it, nine steps may seem a lot, but it is a quick process and I’ve perfected it to suit my busy morning routine.
